New Town

So I have moved. This means that I have to go through the process of finding a new doctor all over again. So first I’ll need to see a GP, then get a referral, then find a psychiatrist. The first step is the hardest, but I finally got around to picking up the phone and calling a GP. I’ve been here a month now, but I’ve been busy with moving and new job ect. Still, I should have gotten onto this sooner because apparently it’s not easy to just see a GP! The first clinic I called said sorry, none of our doctors are taking new patients right now. Maybe next month. The second one I called said that two of their doctors will take new patients, but it was over a week wait for the first available appointment. What the? What do you do if you are sick? Is this normal? What you have to see only ‘your’ doctor? At home I just called the clinic and made an appointment with whoever was there that day. And because it is an initial consultation, it’s going to be longer and more expensive. $140. Yay. And I’m just going to get a referral to see an even more expensive doctor. My main concern now (aside from the money) is that if it took two weeks to see a GP, how long is it going to take to see a psychiatrist? What if I have to wait 3 or 4 months? I have some medication left over from my last prescription but I’m not sure yet what I will need and if it will last. I’m terrified I’ll have trouble at my new job without it, and I want to make a good impression. I want to do a good job. I don’t want not being able to get help to be a hindrance just because the system is against me. So that’s a concern. Then there’s a thing that happened last time with a lot of psychiatrists not willing to deal with ADHD management. My referral had to be send to a few different places last time before someone would take me. I’m hoping I don’t have a repeat of that situation. So that is what’s going on.
